Dear Band Families,
I sincerely appreciate your patience as you wait to hear how the impact of Covid-19 will affect the summer plans of the Kirtland Hornet Marching Band. I am working closely with our administration to make sure we have the safest plan in place for our Band students. Additionally, I am coordinating our band plans in accordance with CDC guidelines, the Governor of Ohio’s recommendations and with the advice from the National Association for Music Education, Ohio Music Education Association and the National Federation of State High School Associations.
Due to droplet spread while performing and the inherent risk of putting mouthpieces directly onto one’s mouth, there are additional risks associated with Covid-19 in regards to Band. At this point in time, we have only received approval to have marching rehearsal and are not permitted to play instruments/ rehearse the music.
Due to this current approval status, I have decided to move our Band Camp dates. The new band dates are:
Band BBQ and Info Sessions: In-person Event Cancelled but uniform fittings will take place via a google survey and submitting measurements.
Fundamentals Camp for all new members: August 12th, 13th, & 14th from 6-8:30pm.
Band Camp for ALL members: August 17th - 21st from 8am to 4pm
- A preview show is not scheduled at this time due to Covid-19 logistics of proper distancing for the audience.
I do fully understand that these dates may create additional logistical issues for some families and I am willing to help address those issues on an individual basis. Please know that I am attempting to make our students’ health and safety priority number one! I will be releasing a detailed plan for keeping our students safe, using the most up-to-date information and guidelines, at the beginning of August.
