KIRTLAND LOCAL SCHOOLS UPDATE July 26, 2023

The Special Board of Education meeting on July 26, 2023, had three items for the Board to vote on. 

• Mr. Bob Race was approved to become the middle school principal for the next three school years. Mr. Race demonstrated strong leadership and did an amazing job of leading KMS last school year as the assistant principal. Mr. Race has built strong relationships with students, staff and the community in his first year in the district. He was a strong curricular leader and would do whatever task that was asked of him. We are excited to have Mr. Race as the principal at KMS! 

• Mr. Victor Puskas was approved to be the next principal at Kirtland High School. Mr. Puskas was a science teacher at Chagrin Falls High School for seven years and then was the assistant principal at West Geauga High School for the past two school years. He went through an extensive interview process including a final round interview with 16 people that included teachers, an administrative assistant, guidance counselors, administrators, parents and students.  The committee collectively was excited and in agreement that Mr. Puskas was a great choice to be our next high school principal. Future announcements will be coming regarding opportunites for students, staff, parents and the community to meet Mr. Puskas.

• The Board approved a change order for $3,417.60 to relocate the play clock as its current location was blocking the view of the scoreboard from the playing field.

 The Kirtland Local Schools are known for academic excellence and strong community support, and have been recognized nationally and statewide for educational achievement. The district also maintains a long tradition of distinction in a variety of extracurricular activities. The Board of Education provides open and thoughtful fiscal management of the community’s investment in the school district’s high quality educational program by ensuring every dollar spent benefits students and the community.                                                      

The Kirtland Local School District is located in Lake County and serves the City of Kirtland and most of the Villages of Kirtland Hills and Waite Hill, and small portions of Willoughby and Chardon Township.
